Full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise conducted at Thiruvananthapuram airport

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport successfully conducted the Full-Scale Airport Emergency Exercise on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Sources said the exercise was part of the evaluation and validation of the Airport Emergency Response Plan (AERP).

The exercise comprehensively tested all components of the AERP, including firefighting, rescue operations, preservation and preservation of evidence, and related emergency response functions.

An emergency scenario involving a passenger aircraft incident at the airport was simulated to assess the airport’s preparedness, stakeholder coordination, and response capabilities in the event of a real-life emergency at the airport.

In a statement made by the airport, it was stated that the scenario was carried out with precision and included fake casualties, timely extinguishing of the ‘fire’ engulfing the ‘aircraft’ by personnel of the Kerala State Fire and Emergency Services and Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFF), evacuation procedures and relevant emergency management protocols.

The exercise witnessed active participation of multiple stakeholders including District Disaster Management Authority, Police, CISF, ARFF, medical teams (airport, government and private) airlines and ground handling organizations.

Observers from various regulatory agencies also evaluated the effectiveness of the exercise.
