Wayne Rooney Show: Liam Rosenior deserves Chelsea chance, says Rooney

Rooney said he had “no doubt” Rosenior could do a good job for Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca left his post at the Blues after 18 months in charge due to falling out with the club owners.

Rosenior last played for Brighton in the Premier League in 2017.

He had a solid but unspectacular playing career as a right-back; He was also among the senior teams of Fulham, Reading and Hull.

Nearly half of his career was spent in the EFL and that is where he began his coaching career.

After a stint as Brighton’s under-23 coach, he spent three years at Derby and worked with Phillip Cocu before Rooney.

“He also has a side that you don’t want to cross with him,” Rooney said.

“That’s important too. If he gets in there, he won’t disappoint. He’s been waiting for an opportunity like this.”

“If you don’t get it now, you’ll never get it. And I think he’s done his apprenticeship, he’s done everything he can to get into that job.

“So there will be no doubt in his mind that he’s capable of doing the job. And hopefully, very soon, hopefully we’ll hear about him becoming the manager, because I think that’s a huge thing for young English coaches.”

“We don’t often see English managers at big clubs, so he will show the way for us.”

The only English managers currently in the Premier League are Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, Burnley’s Scott Parker and Nottingham Forest’s Sean Dyche.
