Man in late teens to face court after deadly shooting

A man has been charged following a fatal shooting and crash-ending police chase in a Sydney suburb.
An 18-year-old man will appear in court after allegedly fleeing the scene of a 28-year-old man suffering gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and leg on Carinya Street in Blacktown.
Police allege the teenage man and a second man in his mid-twenties tried to escape in a car, triggering a five-minute pursuit by police.
The vehicle crashed on Kildare Road less than a kilometer away.
According to police, the two men inside tried to escape, but were arrested after a short chase.
The slightly injured old man was treated at the hospital under police supervision.
The shooting took place in mid-morning on Friday, less than 500 meters from Blacktown police station.
NSW Police Superintendent Brendan Gorman told reporters on Friday that nearby gunshots were heard by police officers who were able to respond immediately.
The 18-year-old was charged with murder, taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent and police pursuit.
It was stated that the person, who was refused bail, will appear in court on Saturday.
Sydney has experienced more than a dozen public shootings, arson attacks and kidnappings since Christmas 2024; This led police to establish Task Force Falcon, a force of 150 officers, in May to combat the underworld war.
