Earlier, while greeting Albanese on their arrival at the White House, Trump was asked what his message was to the Australian people.

Correspondent: What do you hope to achieve with the Prime Minister?

Embers: “I think we will probably reach a pretty fair agreement with Chinese President Xi.”
“They’re going to threaten us with rare earths. I don’t think they’re threatening us too much right now, but they could do that. But I’m threatening them with something that I think is much stronger, and that’s tariffs.”
“About a year from now we will have so many critical minerals and rare earths that you won’t know what to do with them.”

Embers: ”[The deal] It was done a while ago and no one did anything about it… It was moving very slowly. “We’re starting now, we’ve got everything set up.”
