Congress Seeks NC Support for One Rajya Sabha Seat from J&K

The National Conference (NC) confirmed on Monday that the Congress launched negotiations on a possible seat sharing for the Rajya Sabha elections approaching Jammu and Kashmir. NC spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said that the discussions are continuing and that the party’s high command will soon decide the final allocation of seats and candidates.
“Congress approached us to discuss the sharing of seats and these discussions continue. Leadership will soon announce the candidates,” Sadiq said.
The Indian Election Commission issued nominations for four Rajya Sabha seats from J & K until October 13, and voting notifications planned to be held on October 24 if necessary.
The sources within NC said the party was open to offering one of the four seats to the Congress. Preliminary discussions were held and the congress leaders in Delhi are expected to consult Rahul Gandhi before completing their strategies.
In the Assembly, 53 members and NC -led alliance are likely to secure three of the four seats, while the 28 -member BJP is expected to win the fourth. Rajya can play a seven independent decisive role as laws are not implemented against recognition for Sabha elections.
Speculation can nominate NC President Farooq Abdullah and senior leader Sajad Kichloo for the party’s tickets, and the Congress can nominate Senior leader Raman Bhalla. BJP decided to compete on four seats with Old Cm Nirmal Singh among the old candidates Sunil Sethi, Ravinder Rainhi and former candidates.
As the seat sharing negotiations between NC and Congress continue, the elections will be an important political contest that will determine the representation of J & K in Rajya Sabha.
