Nvidia Cannot Sell its Most Advanced AI Chip to China, Says White House

Washington: The Trump administration does not currently plan to allow Nvidia to sell its most advanced artificial intelligence chip, known as Blackwell, to China, the White House said Tuesday.

“As for the Blackwell chip, which is the most advanced chip, that’s not something we’re interested in selling to China at this time,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a White House news conference.

The remarks echoed comments made by President Donald Trump on Sunday, when he announced that the most advanced chips produced by the world’s most valuable company would be reserved for U.S. companies and kept away from China and other countries.

Questions have swirled about whether Trump would allow a scaled-down version of the Blackwell chip to be shipped to China since August, when he said he might allow such sales.

Trump hinted that he could discuss chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping at their summit in South Korea last week, but ultimately said the issue did not come up.
