TCS Nashik case: Complainant says she was made to watch videos of Pakistani Islamic clerics

The indictment of TCS in Nashik for alleged sexual harassment and forced conversion brought to light what investigators said was the accused’s scheme to target the victims. One of them claimed that he was made to watch videos of Pakistani cleric and preacher Tariq Jamil and Indian preacher Zakir Naik.

In his statement, which is part of the charge sheet submitted in the Nashik court last week, he said the videos were shown so that the woman could learn about Islam.

In her statement, the victim told police how the defendant staged a calculated campaign of psychological and religious manipulation, exploiting her vulnerability under the guise of relieving her “mental stress”.

He even said that he was “convinced” that his mental stress would decrease if he accepted Islam, and that he gradually began to believe “these things.” The charge sheet relates to the case registered at Deolali camp police station based on a complaint filed by a 23-year-old employee of the IT firm.

Besides the three arrested accused identified as Sheikh of Denmark, Tausif Attar and Nida Khan, the charge sheet also mentions All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator Matin Patel from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as an accused in the case for allegedly harboring Nida Khan while she was absconding.

The indictment stated that Patel gave Khan asylum so that he could escape arrest, and that he did so despite knowing that Khan’s request for bail had been rejected.

During Khan’s interrogation before his arrest, when police asked where he was, Patel repeatedly replied: “Imtiaz Jaleel Sahib runs the padega (we will have to ask former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel).”

The indictment stated, “However, when questioned thoroughly, Nida Khan told the police about the place where she took shelter with her mother, father, brother and aunt.”

In her statement, the victim told police how the three defendants staged a calculated campaign of psychological and religious manipulation, exploiting her vulnerability under the guise of relieving her “mental stress”. In the statement, it was stated that the married Danish Sheikh sexually abused her under the pretext of getting married.

When the victim was worried about his future and family acceptance, he said: “Don’t be afraid, trust me, God is with us. Stop listening to Bhagwan songs and going to the temple; your stress will reduce.” He then told her to recite Tasbeeh, the statement said.

According to the victim, [Shaikh] He said to him, “The more you mention the name of Allah, your sins will be forgiven and your rewards will increase. If you recite Astagfar, that is, asking for forgiveness from Allah, your mental stress will decrease.”

Elaborating on the matter further, the woman told the police that the Dane asked her to watch the video and listen to the conversations of Tariq Jamil, a Pakistani Islamic cleric, preacher and member of the Tablighi Jamaat. The victim said that Danish got all the information about her bank accounts and UPI PIN and was aware of the money in her bank.

Kurban said, “The Dane told Tausif and Nida to teach me about the Islamic religion. Therefore, Tausif and Nida were telling me about the Islamic religion from time to time. Tausif told me to search and listen to the videos of Zakir Naik and Dr. Israr Ahmed (Pakistan Islamic scholar) on YouTube on my mobile phone, and I watched it according to his instructions.”

The indictment stated that the victim was exposed to Islamic theology, including the stories of Abraham, Bekri Bayram, Zamzam water, Sacrifice, and the concepts of Paradise (heaven) and Hell (hell).

The victim said, “I was convinced that if I accepted Islam, my mental stress would decrease. Little by little, I started to believe these things.”

The indictment contains the statements of 106 witnesses, including the complainant, her mother, TCS employees/management, members of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee and officers investigating the case.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, in her statement to the police, said that her daughter was forced to convert to Islam and was sexually abused after being threatened to harm her family.

The statement said the family had noticed changes in their lifestyle in the past year, including a shift from “modern clothes” to “fully covered shalwar kurtas” and irregular eating habits.

The mother said that her daughter told the family that she had “accepted Islam” after three people, the Sheikh of Denmark, Tauseef Altaar and Nida Khan, “taught her Kalma” and warned of “doomsday” in the house if the family did not convert and remove the god idols.

The Maharashtra government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after several women employees at the IT chief’s Nashik unit made allegations of abuse, attempted forcible conversion, hurting religious sentiments, harassment and mental harassment.

While one case has been registered at Deolali Camp police station, eight FIRs have been registered at Mumbai Naka police station in the city.

Some victims also alleged that they were forced or pressured to adopt religious practices such as praying, changing eating habits, and adopting religious symbols.

TCS has long made it clear that it has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and pressure of any kind and employees who were allegedly involved in sexual harassment at its Nashik office have been suspended.
