M56 traffic: Car explodes into flames sparking severe delays | UK | News

Motorists on a busy stretch of the M56 faced traffic chaos this morning after a car caught fire and queues quickly formed on the busy motorway.
Two westbound lanes were closed in Cheshire from junction 6 of Hale Road to junction 7 of Bowdon, according to traffic alert service Inrix. Highway camera footage shows emergency services and two fire trucks at the scene. The resulting heavy traffic caused serious delays for drivers in the area. A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to a burning car west of the M56 and everyone was safely extricated from the vehicle. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.” All lanes were reopened as traffic conditions returned to normal.
