At least three killed in Russian strikes overnight on Ukraine | Ukraine

At least three people were killed and 17 others were injured in Russia’s missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, local officials said.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of Kiev city, said one person was killed and 10 people were injured in a ballistic missile attack in the capital Kiev early on Saturday. Three of the injured were taken to hospital, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service.

The emergency service wrote in Telegram that in one place a fire broke out in a non-residential building, while the debris of intercepted missiles fell into an open area in another area, damaging the windows of nearby buildings.

“There are explosions in the capital. The city is under ballistic attack,” mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram at the time of the attack.

Acting regional governor Vladyslav Haivanenko stated that two people were killed and seven people were injured in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and that apartment buildings, private houses, an outbuilding, a shop and at least one vehicle were damaged in the attacks.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched nine missiles and 62 drones, of which its air defenses intercepted four missiles and 50 drones.

In Russia, the country’s defense ministry said its air defenses shot down 121 Ukrainian drones overnight.

The attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday called on the United States to expand sanctions on Russian oil from two companies to the entire sector and called for long-range missiles to hit Russia.

Zelenskyy was in London to meet two dozen European leaders who promised military aid to protect Ukraine from future Russian aggression if the ceasefire stops the war.

The meeting, hosted by Keir Starmer, aimed to increase pressure on Vladimir Putin and gave impetus to recent measures, including new sanctions imposed by the US and Europe on Russia’s vital oil and gas export earnings.

The talks also discussed ways to help protect Ukraine’s power grid from Russia’s near-daily drone and missile attacks as winter approaches, strengthen Ukrainian air defenses and provide Kiev with longer-range missiles that can strike deep into Russia. Zelenskyy called on the US to send Tomahawk missiles; It’s an idea that President Donald Trump has also flirted with.
