PMK chief Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday requested Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to provide government jobs to the family heirs of those killed in police firing during Vanniyar reservations, just as his government has done for the family members of Karur stampede victims.
In a statement, he said Mr. Vijay’s compassion was welcome, but that assistance should not be limited to just one group and should be extended to all those suffering in similar circumstances at different periods. He claimed that similar aid should be provided to the families of 21 people who died as a result of police fire and 25 people who died as a result of various pressures during the week-long road closure agitation that started on September 17, 1987.
Anbumani added: “The families of those shot dead during the reservation agitation have every right to receive employment and other forms of assistance from the government. The government has the duty and responsibility to provide these.”
