The second victim of a brutal attack involving a chainsaw has been identified

A second man has been identified as the victim of a brutal stabbing on the NSW south coast as he fights for his life in hospital.
The two men were allegedly attacked by a group of people in Bega at around 2am on Monday, one of whom, 44-year-old Gordon Kessey, died at the scene.
Mr Kessey’s body was found in a park on East St in Bega in the early hours of Monday morning.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the other man, Benjamin Smith, was in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at the South East Regional Hospital.
Two days after the horrific incident, Mr Smith is still fighting for his life in hospital.
Bega Police Station Chief Inspector Shane Jessep said a chainsaw was used during the “violent altercation” although it was not physically used on the victims.
“I can confirm that there was a saw produced during this incident,” he told reporters.
“At this stage, this saw does not appear to be responsible for any ongoing injuries.”
Chief Insp Jessep said Mr Kessey’s death was likely due to stab wounds and investigations were ongoing.
No arrests were made or charged.
