Assaults and violent attacks against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) law enforcement officers have increased by more than 1,150% under the Biden administration compared to the same period last year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Monday.
DHS recorded 238 attacks on ICE officers from January 21 to November 21; this number was only 19 during the same time period in 2024.
Authorities said this sharp increase was due to public “rhetoric” by sanctuary officials, warning that such language could further fuel violence.
“Sanctuary politicians need to tone down their rhetoric before a law enforcement officer is killed,” Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. he said. “They should thank these brave law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day to catch pedophiles, rapists, murderers, gangs, terrorists in our neighborhoods.”

“After months of Democratic politicians comparing ICE to Nazis, the Gestapo, slave patrols, and even encouraging illegal aliens to resist arrest, our brave ICE law enforcement officers have been attacked 238 times,” he added.
According to DHS, officers in the department have faced “a dangerously escalating pattern of violence” in recent months; from hitting, spitting, kicking and biting during arrests to vehicle ramming, shootings and Molotov cocktail attacks.
The violence included an officer being hit in the face with a metal coffee cup, resulting in a lacerated lip that required 13 stitches, DHS said. Another police officer suffered a concussion, bleeding from his head, while arresting an illegal criminal.

“Our law enforcement officers have had Molotov cocktails and rocks thrown at them, shots have been fired at them, cars have been used as weapons against them, and they have been physically assaulted,” McLaughlin said.
