Portsmouth has been named top UK city for the best holiday getaways. The list evaluated the economy, festival appeal and visitor appeal of 40 cities.

The coastal city, which is at the top of the lists with 71.01 points out of 100, is hosting various events this year as well. This includes the illuminations at Southsea Castle, Portsmouth on Ice in Guildhall Square and the chance to meet Santa Claus aboard HMS Warrior. There are also a variety of shows to watch, including The Muppet’s Christmas Carol in concert and three pantomimes to choose from. Theaters across the city will host Aladdin, A Christmas Carol and Snow White.

Located on the South Coast of England, the city boasts an average of eight snow days per year, offering visitors the best chance of enjoying a white Christmas.

Eating out for Christmas dinner costs on average £60 for two people. Popular restaurants in the city include the award-winning Mehmet Mutfak, Smoke and Mirrors and Rocka Restaurant.

Stoke-On-Trent ranked second with 64.32 points. It stands out as the most affordable city for a Christmas getaway.

The average price per night for a hotel in Portsmouth in December is £85.97, while Stoke is more budget-friendly at £46.93 per night.
