‘There is a crap mentality in…’

Appreciating how Dhurandhar managed to break records despite running for over three-and-a-half hours, Emraan Hashmi said, “I haven’t watched the movie but it’s very daring to have two such parts. And it’s a movie that runs almost three-and-a-half hours but it does this kind of work.”
Emraan Hashmi about Dhurandhar
With worldwide gross collections in excess of Rs 1250 billion and net domestic earnings in excess of Rs 840 billion, Dhurandhar created history and became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India. The high-octane spy thriller, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan, also became the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time and the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
Now Emraan Hashmi has made a major statement about the Hindi film industry as the Ranveer Singh starrer becomes a blockbuster success. The actor, who was last seen in Haq alongside Yami Gautam (wife of Dhurandhar director Aditya Dhar), said people in the industry have a “shitty mentality” as they like to criticize films unnecessarily.
Speaking to India Today, Emraan said, “When a film does a certain job, first of all, you feel happy. [However,] There is a terrible mentality in our industry. people love [to] sold out movies. But I believe that if something is going well, you should celebrate it. Because it really is… The more successful the movies are, the better the industry will be and the more cash will flow. It benefits everyone. That’s why this ridiculous mentality shouldn’t be there.”
Appreciating how Dhurandhar managed to break records despite running for over three and a half hours, the Gangster actor said, “But it’s great for the makers. I think it’s a great film. The marketing of the film, the way it is… I haven’t watched the film but it’s very bold to have two parts like that. And it’s a film that’s almost three and a half hours long but it does this kind of work. I was just telling someone that the cinema experience will last four hours but people are watching it even in the wee hours of the morning at 12 o’clock shows. That’s the power of cinema and word of mouth is fast.” It’s spreading.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Hashmi will be seen in Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, Neeraj Pandey’s crime thriller series from A Wednesday, Special 26 and Baby-Fame. The series also stars Sharad Kelkar, Amruta Khanvilkar, Zoya Afroz, Nandish Sandhu and Anurag Sinha. Taskaree will start streaming on Netflix starting January 14.
