‘They Have To Be Good’: Trump Warns Hamas Of ‘Eradication’ If Gaza Truce Fails | World News

A day after Israel claimed Hamas had violated the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to the militant group on Monday (local time), saying it faced “destruction” if it violated the ceasefire in the region.

Speaking in the Oval Office about the latest developments in the Middle East, Trump emphasized that the militant group must be “good” and “behave” to avoid severe consequences.

The US President said, “We have peace for the first time in the Middle East. We made an agreement with Hamas that they will be very good. They will behave, they will be polite, and if they don’t… we will destroy them if we have to. They will be destroyed and they know it.”

He blamed Hamas for past violence and suggested that the group no longer had significant foreign support, especially from Iran.

“They went in and killed a lot of people. They’re violent people. Hamas was very violent. But they don’t have Iran’s support anymore. They don’t really have anyone’s support anymore. They have to be good, and if they’re not good, they’re going to be destroyed,” Trump added.

The US President also emphasized that Washington will not deploy troops for this purpose and stated that ‘US forces will not intervene’.

Trump’s remarks came during a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the Oval Office; where both leaders signed a multibillion-dollar agreement on critical minerals and defense cooperation.

Earlier on Sunday, Israel announced that the ceasefire agreement had been “renewed and entered into force” following a series of airstrikes in Gaza in retaliation for what it claimed were Hamas attacks on its forces.

Following this, according to the Times of Israel, senior White House officials, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha Vance will also visit the country on Tuesday.

In a post published in X magazine on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated: “After a series of significant attacks carried out in accordance with the directive of the political echelon and in response to violations by Hamas, the Israeli Armed Forces began to re-enforce the ceasefire in accordance with the terms of the agreement. The Israel Defense Forces will continue to support the ceasefire agreement and will respond harshly to any violations.”

The IDF said it carried out airstrikes targeting dozens of Hamas-affiliated areas in Gaza. These include weapons storage facilities, firing positions, terrorist cells and nearly 6 kilometers of underground tunnels allegedly used to plan attacks against Israel.

The attacks follow what the IDF claims is a surge of Hamas militants in the Rafah district of southern Gaza; Here, defense forces claim that anti-tank missiles and gunfire were directed at IDF troops operating to disrupt the terrorist infrastructure in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire.

By Sunday, the Gaza Media Office reported that 97 people had been killed and 230 injured since the ceasefire came into force on October 10.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the office accused the Israeli military of 80 violations since October 10, calling them “clear and obvious violations” of the ceasefire agreement and international humanitarian law.

At least 42 Palestinians were killed by Israeli military fire in many areas in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported, citing hospital sources in Gaza; this was one of the deadliest days since the US-brokered ceasefire came into effect.
