Naidu Orders Probe Into Hostel Food Poisoning Case

: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Sunday, intervened in the incident in which more than 90 students fell ill after having breakfast at Asrama Boys Hostel in Devarapalli village of Rampachodavaram mandal of Polavaram district, and directed strict action against those responsible and demanded a detailed report by Monday.
Following the incident, Polavaram joint collector and Rampachodavaram Integrated Tribal Development Agency project officer Bachu Smaran Raj suspended the hostel’s deputy manager K. Ganapathi and cook Lakshmi on charges of dereliction of duty, which allegedly led to the students falling ill. Demonstration notices were also forwarded to deputy tribal welfare officer J. Sambhudu and school principal D. Nageswara Rao.
Naidu reviewed the incident with officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and relevant departments and instructed them to ensure accountability. He asked the authorities to closely monitor the health status of the affected students and provide regular updates.
Officials informed the Prime Minister that 92 students at Asrama Boys Hostel developed symptoms such as stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea and fever after having breakfast on Saturday afternoon. The students were immediately shifted to district hospitals at Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram for treatment.
VI in the hostel. There are a total of 277 students from Class to Class X. On Saturday morning, students were served idli and Bombay chutney for breakfast. During the school assembly, a few students started vomiting and complained of dizziness and loose movements, after which they were taken to the primary health center in Maredumilli and the district hospital in Rampachodavaram.
Later, as more students fell ill, the hostel staff served curd rice instead of regular lunch. Around 3 pm, Polavaram district medical and health officer Dr. Saritha was informed and she rushed to the hostel. Medical camps were organized at the hostel, Maredumilli Health Center and Rampachodavaram district hospital to provide treatment to the affected students.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, experts in pediatrics, microbiology, social and preventive medicine and a food inspector were assigned. Food, water and fecal samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.
Saritha said that 55 students were discharged after their treatment, and the remaining 51 students were in stable health. He added that all affected students are under medical supervision.
The joint collector said a joint audit team has been constituted to conduct a detailed investigation and a comprehensive report will be submitted to the government.
