Third link | Christine Fréchette expresses doubts about the route chosen by her government

(Quebec) While maintaining the suspense, the candidate to succeed François Legault, Christine Fréchette, advances a little further on the third link. She has reservations about the central route chosen by her government and takes the opportunity to respond to her rival in the race, Bernard Drainville.

“Budgetary rigor is at the heart of the DNA of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ),” she said on the show “Mordus de politique” on RDI on Friday, recalling that the current project could cost up to 11 billion.

“I think it deserves a few days of analysis, of discussion, before deciding on the best possible solution,” added Mr.me Fréchette.

Earlier this week, Bernard Drainville accused Christine Fréchette of harming the credibility of the government by maintaining vagueness on the inter-river link project. “Being at the CAQ means being for the third link,” he said.

Christine Fréchette says she is analyzing several options, adding that she is “aware that there are traffic issues in the Quebec and Chaudière-Appalaches region.” The candidate for leadership, however, says she notes “that there is a lot of criticism around the central corridor which was selected”.

In the past, the CAQ proposed a third link further east. Last year, the then Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, unveiled a new corridor located this time further west, and therefore closer to the two current bridges.

Prime Minister François Legault decided this week by saying: “We are all for the third link, including the two candidates. »

Asked during the interview with Radio-Canada if she was indeed for the inter-river link, Christine Fréchette replied: “I am for a new link, so I am for developing a new solution to ensure that traffic issues are alleviated. Is it the link that was chosen that is the solution? For the moment, it is a corridor which does not gather support on either side of the river. So, we have to see, are there less expensive alternatives? Can we get federal money too? »

Mme Fréchette continues his reflection on the subject. She should make her position known “within two weeks”.
