aravalli hills: Aravalli Hills Controversy Explained: Supreme Court order, new definition & government’s response – The Economic Times Video

The Aravalli Hills are at the center of a new political and environmental debate after the Supreme Court of India approved the revised definition of the Aravalli Range. As per the order dated November 20, 2025, the court adopted a benchmark proposed by the government that defines Aravalli Hills as landforms rising 100 meters or more above the local relief, together with their slopes and adjoining areas. The Union Environment Ministry has declared that there is no imminent threat to the Aravalli ecology, stating that mining will be allowed in only 0.19% of the total Aravalli area and new mining leases will not be granted until further scientific studies are completed. While Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav rejected claims of new mining in NCR, opposition leaders expressed concerns over ecological impact, desertification and conservation of the Delhi-NCR region.
