Thousands of residents without power heading into day of extreme heat; Tearful Robin Bailey takes swipe at radio network after shock axing; Queensland ranked as country’s second strongest economy

A tearful Robin Bailey told listeners of her breakfast radio show she feared how she would make a living after being sacked from FM station 97.3 for the second time.

Speaking on 97.3FM this morning, the veteran Brisbane radio presenter said: “I just have to believe that something, something good, is going to happen.”

Radio star Robin Bailey has been sacked from 97.3FM along with presenters Corey Oates and Kip Wightman.

ARN, which owns the KIIS Network, announced last Thursday: Robin, Kip and Corey Oats The breakfast show will be broadcast for the last time on December 12.

The announcement comes just months after former Broncos star Corey Oates joined Bailey and Kip Wightman in hosting the breakfast show.

In an emotional post on Facebook, Bailey took a look at the network, saying “seven amazing, talented, kind and caring people lost their jobs last Thursday.”

“We care about our sector [sic] It’s more about the money than the connection.

Bailey faced turmoil in her personal life and career, including the deaths of her first husband, Tony Smart, who took his own life in 2014, and her second husband, Sean Pickwell, who died of liver cancer.

In 2016, 97.3FM was caught off guard when it did not renew its contract after 10 years on air. Three years later, he returned to the station before last week’s axing.

This change comes at a time when Brisbane radio is in turbulent times; 4BC Mornings presenter Bill McDonald and Breakfast presenter Peter Fegan also confirmed their separation in recent weeks.
