Following the chaos on Thursday night, GMP was given greater authority over the crackdown on the area.

Officers were also given a Section 60 order, which allows police to carry out stop searches, as well as a Section 34 order, which allows officers to order people to leave the area when told to do so.

These powers are limited to a separate area that includes Picadilly Gardens and parts of the Northern Quarter. In particular, they cover:

To the west it is bounded by New York Avenue, Fountain Street and High Street. To the north it will be bordered by Shudehill and the Ring Road. To the east this will be bounded by Gt Ancoats Street. Port Street, Piccadilly and Portland Street to the south.
