‘Each other’s constant’: Estranged ex of celebrity dentist shot dead by police reveals fresh family heartbreak months on
The ex-wife of a famous dentist who was shot dead by police after terrorizing two women in a Potts Point apartment block has shared details of a new heartbreaking family loss in a social media post.
Steven Lin, 41, was killed on March 3 this year after allegedly attacking two women, Chloe Paul and Christine Campeau, with a knife in their home on St Neot Ave.
Police tasered Lin, but he could not be restrained and was shot and killed by a police officer.
Mr Lin’s estranged ex-girlfriend Cassandra shared on social media with “deep and unimaginable heartbreak” that her brother Christopher had died last Thursday from complications during ENT surgery.
Ms. Lin wrote on social media that Christopher was her brother’s soulmate, protector, and the person she loved most in the world.
“We were close as children, but our bond grew stronger as we became adults, because family was everything to him. We became constants to each other. I was the center of his world, and he was the center of mine,” she said.
“His loss is impossible to put into words. I don’t know how to imagine this life without his laughter, his guidance, his unwavering love, and the comfort of knowing he was always there.”
“Even though I feel broken and there are no words to describe the immense pain I feel, I am eternally grateful for every moment we shared and for the privilege of being loved by him.
“He was truly one of a kind, had the biggest heart, and the void he left behind can never be filled.”
After her husband was murdered, Ms. Lin explained the terrible reasons for the end of their marriage in an open letter.
She wrote that her world collapsed when she discovered her husband’s secret life, his affairs, his abuse, and his father, whom she knew nothing about.
“This shattered the trust I had in you and the future I thought we were building together,” he said.
“The pain of this betrayal is something I’m still learning how to carry.
“As I stand here today, I am reminded that people are never the worst or the best at what they do.
“You were complicated. You were flawed. You made choices that hurt me deeply and changed our lives forever.
“I had to stand back and let you fight your secret war. A war you eventually lost.”
Lin was the former chief executive officer of Helix Dentistry Group and was facing multiple criminal charges before his death.
He appeared in Wollongong Local District Court in the days leading up to his death in 2025 over allegations he strangled a sex worker, assaulted her and stole $2000 from her.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the charges were dismissed after the sex worker failed to appear in court.
Lin also had records of bail breaches, assaults, strangulation offences, apprehended violence order breaches and stalking/threatening offences.
