Three passengers killed as two omni-buses collide at Kottampatti near Madurai

Three passengers, including two women, died when a Marthandam-bound bus crashed into a stationary private bus at Kottampatti on the Tiruchi-Madurai highway in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Police identified the deceased as G. Sudarshan (19) of Chengalpattu, A. Mary Sudha (45) of Nagercoil and M. Kanagaranjitham (65) of Kovilpatti.

Police said both the buses came from Chennai.

While the bus heading towards Thisayanvilai stopped on Kottampatti road, the other bus heading towards Marthandam was hit from behind around 5.45 pm.

More than 20 people were injured in the accident.

After receiving first aid at Melur Government Hospital, the injured were taken to Government Rajaji Hospital.

Kottampatti police are continuing their investigation.
