TikTok and Meta grilled at Senate misinformation committee

Meta and TikTok executives appeared before the Senate committee on climate misinformation in Canberra this week, where they defended their companies’ processes for handling misinformation against a barrage of criticism from senators across political lines.

The committee also conducted two days of hearings with National Party-affiliated think tank Page Research Centre, Dr. He also received information from Karl Kruszelnicki and Human Rights commissioner Lorraine Finlay.

For Meta, Simon Milner, the company’s vice president of public policy for APAC, and Cheryl Seeto, head of policy for the Pacific region, were on hand to face the music of committee chair Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, as well as the likes of One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts and Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.
