Timothee Chalamet beats Leonardo DiCaprio

Chalamet, 30, continued his quest for greatnessand won an Oscar for the ping-pong caper Marty Supreme, beating out stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney for best actor in a musical or comedy.
Although DiCaprio missed the chance, his film One Battle After Another won the most awards overall, including best musical or comedy film and best director.
Irish actress Jessie Buckley was named best drama actor for her role as Hamnet and told the audience: “It’s a real honour, I love being part of this industry.”
The Golden Globes are an important stop on the road to the Academy Awards, and Sunday’s other acting winners included Teyana Taylor, Rose Byrne, Wagner Moura and Stellan Skarsgård.
Unlike the Oscars, the Globes also recognize TV shows, and British actors Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty picked up more awards on the night for their performances in Netflix drama Adolescence.
Chalamet’s ‘sweet’ win
All eyes are on the Oscar race. Timothée Chalamet‘s victory gave him the upper hand over his rivals. “I’m in a category where there are many greats,” he said while accepting his award.
This was Chalamet’s fifth Globes nomination but his first win. “My father instilled in me the spirit of gratitude growing up, always be grateful for what you have,” he said.
“In the past, it’s allowed me to leave this ceremony empty-handed, with my head held high, grateful to be here. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments made this moment even sweeter.”
Looking at his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, he added, “I love you so much for my mom and my wife.”
Jessie Buckley Maggie O’Farrell was named best actress for her role in the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s best-selling novel Hamnet, about the death of her son.
“This is not a normal feeling or situation,” he said in his acceptance speech.
“It was a very unusual set to be a part of because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Englishman who ever lived, and alongside our English family we had a Chinese director and a mostly Irish and mostly Polish crew.”

“Our light does not need permission to shine,” he told them. “We belong in every room we enter. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve a place.”
