Tips and race-by-race preview for Randwick on Saturday

Race 5: 14:55 CHANDON HANDICAP (2000M)

6. Sounds Unusual After three runs back he is now ready to win and was spotted at 500m at Wyong as the sprint continued. He was left flat-footed but got back up to run for second. Let’s hope the flat spot doesn’t catch him out this time, but the bigger track will give him the chance to overcome this challenge. If all goes well, this seems perfect for him. 1. Town He will be in better form for his first run at the Lakes at Wyong and going over the distance will be a plus. He’s failed at his job, so expect him to improve greatly. 2. Elliptical He put together two good runs behind Unlimited with qualifications at Randwick and Wyong. This is no harder than last time and should be around the target again. 11.Trapalanda He is running second in Victoria and was a favorite over 2000m at Flemington two weeks ago. He’s right under the weight and given his honesty, he’s in the mix too.
How to play: Unusual WIN is coming.

Race 6: 15:30 RACE AND SPORTS HANDICAP (1200M)

A little risky but 1. Gatsby’s He did enough in his first run to show that the new stable can get back to its old form. He drew on the outside and dropped back to last but has made good progress in the race having been in fine form since three weeks ago. He goes up 100 meters and draws much more gently, and has the chance to show something. 3.Bundeena He has a wide wicket to deal with, but he’s been stepping up lately and probably wants to do it again. There is a game effort and a case on this course a month ago. 4. Applaud We proceed a little further and after a few close-ups, we return to 1200 meters. He will take the first win at Kembla Grange with a soft shot from behind and could repeat it if there is enough pace. Highway 11 Lane It is a real riddle. A talented, close second to Clear Thinking shows this, but he doesn’t help himself with his racer attitude. If he does his best it’s very winnable but we have to trust him.
How to play: EVERY SIDE OF Gatsby.

Race 7: 16:05 IRRESISTABLE POOLS AND SPA’S DISABLED (1600M)

6. Welcome to the show He has something his rivals don’t: a string of strong wins. He was impressive at the Flemington mile last time so Randwick shouldn’t bother him, he can race quickly in the small field and there’s no reason why his winning streak can’t continue. 3. Sun God It is a threat. He was a bit late at The Lakes but put in a good performance to finish fourth and had not had much luck at the start before. 7. Rolling Magic He is the presumptive leader and after leading three weeks ago, he competed well against Alabama Fox, despite not starting any games. He won the Nowra Cup a mile ago and can catch up if he is allowed to dictate. 2. Hell He didn’t have a bad runoff race despite only being a few home runs behind Cool Jakey last time, and it sounds like he thinks it might be in order to step up the ride.

Race 8: 16:45 SCHWEPPES CARRINGTON STAKES (1400M)

How are all eyes 5. Winch chat moving away from the stalls. If he handles everything professionally, he will either be ahead or in a strong position on pace. He did a good job of taking control and running fast over 1350m with a late win at Wyong two weeks ago. The one to be defeated. 1. Sandpaper He’ll find himself in a nice spot just off the pace, and he didn’t screw up during the Buffering at Eagle Farm last time. A repeat of a close second to Know Thyself on this track and distance two races ago earned him a significant player. 3. Matcha Latte He picks up where he left off after a good break but he is such an honest horse that you can expect him to run well even if he needs a knock. We won the State-Midway Championship in April and are worth following. 9. Green Fly He is generally a knockout type player, has a dynamic finish and won the final preparations fresh. His subsequent form has been mixed but there is hope going in both directions.
How To play: Winchat WON.

Race 9: 17:20 WRITE IN COOLMORE MT WHITE HANDICAP (1200M)

3. Candlestick He has always shown his potential and his effort in his first run for the new stable was promising. His form in the race is good, the winner has been running very well since then and should be ready to move up to 1200 metres. He draws ideally, Zac Lloyd knows him well and he should be hard to beat. 5. Super Northwest He was very dominant in winning a similar race a month ago and his form has been good since then, with the second and third horses winning. He’s moved up a bit in weight, but there’d be a big chance if the same horse shows up. 11. Next to the Ocean He has just overcome the challenge of winning over 1000 meters at this track and has remained out of favor despite starting fourth favorite at Wyong a fortnight ago. It helps to get back to Randwick and go another 100 meters up and that’s in the mix too. 7.Thames His first run for the Portelli stable since entering a Listed race at Scone in May is a big watch. He is fitter than in a recent trial win and will improve no matter what he does.
How to play: Candlewick WON.

Race 10: 17:55 TAB HANDICAP (1400M)

There’s no reason to skip 2. Althoff on a track and trip made just for him. He ran up to his first two runs over 1200m when scoring at Wyong a fortnight ago and was quite strong at the finish there too. He carries 1kg less at his peak and will be hard to stop if he gets a hit at the right time. 4. Captain Furai Wyong was supposed to contest his first race but is a late scratch so he goes ahead with another attempt. Better wet follower but pretty honest and any support would be a big push. 3. Puntin Wyong has been a bit disappointing as he continues his run but he is better than this and it is no surprise to see him improve. Undefeated is second and a chance if he can get through the alley. 5. Exclamation He was too good to win this course when he was running from midfield a month ago and had some form ties with Althoff. He probably needs a steady pace, or a real pace, but he doesn’t leave it out.
How to play: Althoff won.
