TJ Watt: Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker has surgery on partially collapsed lung

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt underwent surgery to repair a lung that partially collapsed during dry injection treatment.

Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had six tackles in Pittsburgh’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.

However, the 31-year-old actor was taken to hospital for a lung evaluation after feeling unwell on Wednesday.

Dry needling is the treatment of pain and movement problems caused by inserting small needles into the body.

The Steelers didn’t mention dry needling in Friday’s update, but that element did come up In a post on X, external by his older brother JJ.

“Yesterday, TJ underwent successful surgery to stabilize and repair his partially collapsed lung following a dry needling treatment session at the facility on Wednesday,” said JJ Watt, a minority investor in Premier League club Burnley.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said TJ Watt, who signed a three-year contract extension in July, will miss Monday’s game against Miami and is “resting comfortably at home” but does not know when he will return.
