Cyber fraudsters dupe Polavaram MLA, siphon off ₹12 lakh

Cyber ​​fraudsters duped Polavaram MLA Chirri Balaraju and withdrew ₹12 lakh from her bank account in Eluru district.

Acting on a complaint, Jeelugumilli police in Eluru district registered a case and initiated an investigation on Sunday. The fraudsters allegedly sent a link to the MLA’s mobile phone on the pretext of challan. “When Mr. Balaraju clicked on the link, the amount was debited from his bank account within minutes,” police said.

Venkateswara Rao said that following the MLA’s complaint, the Jeelugumilli police started an investigation along with its cyber crime wing. “We are trying to trace the source account from which the amount was withdrawn and identify the beneficiary accounts to which the money was transferred,” said a cybercrime police officer.
