Sao Paulo Grand Prix result: Lando Norris wins with Max Verstappen third after starting in pits

Norris’ victory, his second in a row and seventh in 21 races this year, left no room for doubt as to what would be a perfect weekend for the Briton.
The 25-year-old Briton contributed to his sprint victory from pole position on Saturday by controlling the race from the front after taking pole position.
The weekend earned him a total of 33 points and prevented him from winning the championship.
Norris crossed the line well to take the lead on the first lap, and in a chaotic opening part of the race he advanced with the early safety car and then the virtual safety car (VSC) a few laps later, before moving into the distance to win with a two-stop strategy.
The safety car was prompted by Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto’s first lap crash involving Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin at Turn Nine.
And the VSC came after a collision between Piastri, Antonelli and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc on lap six led to Leclerc retiring and Piastri receiving a penalty.
Norris dedicated his win to former McLaren consultant Gil De Ferran, who was a key figure in the team’s revival in recent years and died of a heart attack in December 2023.
