TotalEnergies plans to start phase two output at Azerbaijan’s Absheron gas field in 2029

The final investment decision on the project is expected to be made in July this year.
The Absheron field is located approximately 100 kilometers (62 mi) southeast of Baku.
Production began in July 2023 with the first phase of development designed to produce approximately 4.2 million cubic meters of gas and approximately 12,800 barrels of condensate per day.
At the peak of production in the second phase, daily gas production is expected to reach approximately 12.7 million cubic meters, and condensate production is expected to be approximately 35,000 barrels per day.
Discovered in 1960, the Absheron field is estimated to contain approximately 350 billion cubic meters of gas, making it the second largest gas field in the Caspian Sea after the Shah Deniz gas field.
The development agreement for the field was signed in 2009 between TotalEnergies and SOCAR, which each have 35% shares in the project. The remaining 30 percent belongs to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, which joined the consortium in August 2025.
