Tottenham Hotspur sack head coach Thomas Frank after eight months in charge
Frank needed to build on this victory, the club’s first trophy since 2008, and turn them into top four contenders once again. But they have only won seven league games, although they have been hampered by a long list of injuries.

Their current eight-match winless run in the Premier League is their longest since Juande Ramos was sacked in 2008 for a nine-match winless streak.
Despite their home troubles, Tottenham performed impressively in the Champions League and finished fourth in the 36-team rankings, making it to the last 16.
Signs were that Frank was still supported by the club’s hierarchy; Midfielder Conor Gallagher was transferred from LaLiga side Atletico Madrid in January, with former Liverpool assistant coach John Heitinga joining as his assistant.

But with no end in sight to the club’s plight, Frank becomes just another Spurs project on the scrap heap.
Spurs will have to quickly dust themselves off with a derby against North London rivals and league leaders Arsenal on February 22.
Lose that and the club could find itself fighting to avoid relegation for the first time since the 1976-77 season when it hit rock bottom.
