Tractor-trailer crash on I-495 in Merrimack Valley backs up traffic for miles

A tractor trailer overturned on a stretch of Interstate 495 through the Merrimack Valley on Friday morning, backing up traffic for miles.

The truck crashed on the north side of the highway around 7 a.m. in Andover, spilling gravel onto the roadway near Interstate 93.

All northbound lanes were initially closed to accommodate a major emergency response, but the right lane was later reopened.

Video taken from the scene shows the truck on its side and spreading across multiple lanes.

As of 8.30am motorists were dealing with traffic as far as Chelmsford.

Drivers were asked to seek alternative routes.

It is not yet clear whether anyone was injured in the accident.

An investigation is ongoing.
