Tractor trailer driver strikes over a dozen overpasses on Thruway through Central NY, troopers say

Syracuse, NY – The driver of a tractor trailer crashed into more than a dozen overpasses for about 60 miles while driving through central New York on Wednesday, troopers said.
At about 1:45 p.m., Thruway officials told state police that the driver of a tractor trailer pulling an overly tall excavator on a flatbed trailer crashed into overpasses while traveling west from Herkimer toward Onondaga counties, according to state police spokeswoman Krista Montie.
Troopers located the 2019 Freightliner and stopped it at the Mattydale tandem parking lot in Salina.
The driver of the vehicle was Oleksander Tarakanovskyi, 38, of North Carolina.
Tarakanovskyi was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and issued more than 20 traffic tickets, including violations of federal commercial motor vehicle safety regulations, according to Montie.
No injuries were reported. There were no lane closures or significant traffic impacts along the route from Exits 30 to 36.
Minor damage occurred to most of the overpasses. A few had moderate damage, according to Montie.
All lanes and overpasses will remain open and bridge inspections will assess any structural impacts.
The driver was released on probation.
