Tragedy as girl left for dead on UK street identified in murder probe | UK | News

The girl died in hospital after being found critically injured on Austhorpe’s Kennerleigh Avenue just before 6am yesterday morning. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes, said: “Following an appeal for further information yesterday, we have identified the deceased as a 16-year-old girl from the Cleckheaton area. Her family have been informed and we are supporting them as they try to come to terms with what happened.”

“Our investigations into the incident that led to his death are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of ​​Kennerleigh Avenue in the early hours of yesterday morning to come forward if they have any information that could assist our investigation.”

His family have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers.

Four people, including two 18-year-old women, a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, remain in custody today (Sunday) after being arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder.

Speaking yesterday, Supt Bowes said: “This is an extremely complex investigation in which a young woman has sadly lost her life.

“We are treating his death as a homicide and have arrested four people in connection with it.

“Despite extensive investigations we have conducted throughout today, we have not yet been able to confirm his identity.

“We hope that by revealing these details someone will recognize who he is and come forward.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area in the early hours of this morning or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity.”
