Train derailment in Spain: Up to ’10 dead and 100 injured’ | World | News

Spanish media reported that about 10 people died and about 100 people were injured as a result of the train derailment. Two high-speed trains derailed in southern Spain on Sunday, according to rail operator ADIF.
According to Andalusian emergency services, at least 25 people were seriously injured. The incident took place near the town of Adamuz, close to Cordoba. Rail network operator Adif confirmed the derailment, stating that service Iryo 6189 from Málaga to Madrid derailed and hit the adjacent track.
Iyro, the high-speed train operator in Spain, confirmed the derailment on the X. The statement said, “The service departed from Malaga at 18.40 and there were approximately 300 people on the ship at the time of the incident.”
“Iryo is deeply saddened by what happened and has activated all emergency protocols.” The company added that it was working closely with the relevant authorities to manage the situation.
A second train traveling on adjacent tracks between Madrid and Huelva also derailed. Due to the incident, all high-speed train traffic between Madrid and Andalusia was stopped.
Andalusia’s emergency services said all rail traffic in the area was stopped, with at least nine ambulances and several emergency support vehicles sent to the scene.
The regional interior minister activated emergency procedures by establishing a command center in Adamuz.
RTVE journalist Salvador Jimenez was a passenger on the train from Cordoba to Madrid. He told the news channel that one of the derailed carriages was “completely overturned” and had its windows broken.
He shared images showing that the rear carriage of the train was lying on its side and the evacuated passengers were sitting next to the overturned carriage.
