Trapped Couple Saved as Strangers Form Human Chain to Stop SUV from Plunging Off Highway Ledge on Christmas
A horrific Christmas Day crash on a snow-covered Northern California highway turned into a life-saving rescue mission when a couple and their two dogs were trapped in an SUV suspended on a steep embankment. The dramatic moment occurred Thursday, Dec. 25, as a powerful winter storm ripped through the region along U.S. Route 50, a treacherous mountain road, according to multiple news outlets including KCRA, Good Morning America and NBC News. Video captured by the dashcam and bystanders shows the SUV going out of control, sliding off the road, then coming to rest against a tree and staggering hundreds of meters above the slope below. Within seconds, Air Force Staff Sgt. Ruben Tala, who was in the back of the vehicle with his family, took action.
