The Maharashtra State Wakf Tribunal, headquartered at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, has granted a six-month extension for uploading Wakf property data on the UMEED portal.

UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) portal is the Centre’s system for digital management of Waqf properties, which is the permanent donation of movable or immovable assets (such as land, buildings, money) by a Muslim for religious, charitable or religious purposes.

The court granted relief on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, on the interim application of the Maharashtra State Waqf Board, as the last date for registration ended on December 5. The Board told the Court that despite repeated contacts with the UMEED portal support team via emails and WhatsApp, some technical issues remained unresolved.

According to the board, there are around 36,000 registered Wakf institutions in Maharashtra. The Board stated that while it provided the details of all 36,000 institutions out of nearly 75,000 foundation properties, only 50,000 properties could be uploaded to the portal.

The Bench, comprising District Judge and Chairman Adil Khan and Member Mohd Mohiuddin Moied, granted a six-month extension to the Board and ordered that the assistance would commence only from the date on which the UMEED portal “will be made fully functional 24×7 without any technical glitches for the Waqf Board and all Waqf institutions”.

He also directed various central authorities to ensure that all technical flaws and “deficiencies in the UMEED portal” are rectified within 10 days. The portal should be made operational only after the defects have been completely eliminated and should operate without any interruption.

Additionally, the Court prevented the authorities during this period from taking any adverse action against the “trustees (trustees) of Foundation institutions” under the provisions of the UMEED Law. It also ruled that if the defects are not corrected, additional time should be given to compensate for the time the portal remained non-functional or defective.

The Federation of Muslims of Maharashtra welcomed the decision. Their officer, Shaikh Mujeeb, urged trustees across the state to take advantage of the extended period and complete the uploading of Waqf property details once the portal becomes fully functional.
