NFL results week 17: Allen & Hurts struggle, Browns stun Steelers

As exciting as the end of Philadelphia’s 13-12 win in Buffalo was, despite the great defense on display, both sides still have issues to resolve with their offensive performances.

After going scoreless after three quarters, Josh Allen dragged the Bills back into the game with his usual brilliance, but with the game on the line, he missed the crucial shot that would have secured the victory in the final seconds.

Allen also lost a fumble that led to an Eagles touchdown, went into a wild tackle that resulted in a 19-yard sack, and was a hesitant runner on a failed fourth down attempt from three yards out.

The reigning MVP is undoubtedly a superstar, but Allen will need to make big plays come playoff time and Buffalo will now head out as a wild card team.

If Allen had been connected to this late pass, the big story would have been Jalen Hurts’ inability to complete the pass in the second half.

The Eagles became the first team since the 1987 Patriots to win two games in a season without passing a second-half pass, but they need more from Hurts even though their defense is up there with the league’s best.

Head coach Nick Sirianni is a brash personality and isn’t afraid to win ugly. He certainly knows how to win, as only two coaches had more wins than him in their first five seasons in charge of a team.

It’s a theme that Philadelphia is happy to sit up front and trust their defense; But gaining just 16 yards in the second half, as they did in Buffalo, is not a recipe for success.

If the Eagles want to defend their Super Bowl crown, you’d think that at some point Hurts, Saquon Barkley and company would have to step up.
