Truck driver falls asleep, hits school bus on I-10 in Jacksonville
A dump truck crashed into the back of a school bus on Interstate 10 near mile marker 350 in Jacksonville on Monday. The accident occurred at around 6:54 a.m. when both vehicles were traveling in the right eastbound lane of the I-10 highway.
The 44-year-old dump truck driver from Jacksonville said he was “so tired and fell asleep behind the wheel,” the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. “When he woke up, he realized he was about to hit the bus and tried to get out of the way, but was unable to do so in time,” the news release said.
The front of the truck hit the rear of the bus, the news release said. While there were no injuries on the bus, there was only one child on the bus.
