Trump admin sanctions Russian oil companies, presses for Ukraine ceasefire

The Trump administration imposed on Wednesday additional sanctions Regarding Russia’s two largest oil companies, attention was drawn to “Russia’s lack of serious commitment to a peace process that will end the war in Ukraine.”
While announcing the sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “Now is the time to stop the killings and establish an immediate ceasefire.”
“Treasury stands ready to take further action if necessary to support President Trump’s efforts to end another war,” Bessent said. “We encourage our allies to join us and comply with these sanctions.”
The Treasury Department said the new sanctions would hurt the Kremlin’s ability to generate revenue to finance its war against Ukraine.
A senior White House official told NBC News that the new sanctions are related to the failure of plans to meet between President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
