Thomas Markle major health update as Meghan Markle’s father has ‘leg amputated’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Snr, allegedly had to undergo life-saving surgery, during which his leg was amputated. Mr Markle, 81, was admitted to hospital on Wednesday and underwent a three-hour surgery to remove his left foot and lower leg after a circulation problem turned his limb blue and black.
The news came from his son, Thomas Jr., who gave an update on his father’s condition. It was announced by. he said Daily Mail: “Dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue, then black. It all happened so quickly. I took him to a local hospital, they did a few scans and ultrasounds and said his leg would have to be amputated.”
“There was no other option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a matter of life and death.”
The former TV lighting director underwent surgery in the Philippines, where he moved earlier this year.
Thomas Snr is known to have a difficult relationship with his daughter Meghan and has previously spoken of the “pain” of the estrangement they have experienced since her marriage to Prince Harry.
She never met her grandchildren, Archie and Lillibet, and did not walk down the aisle on her daughter’s wedding day, with King Charles doing the honors instead.
It is not thought that Meghan has reached her family following her health problem, as Thomas Snr remains in hospital in a critical condition and is awaiting a new operation in the coming days.
Tom Jr added: “One of his doctors said the next two or three days were critical. His left leg was removed below the knee. They were worried infection (sepsis or gangrene) might set in. “The flesh was black and he was dying.
“No options were given.
“It was either ‘we have to operate immediately and remove his leg, or he could die.’
“It was a life-threatening situation.”
Mr Markle’s health, who has been estranged from his daughter since marrying the Duke of Sussex in 2018, appears to have been deteriorating for several years.
The Sussex couple suffered two heart attacks just before they got married, and in 2022 he suffered a stroke that left him unable to speak.
Mr Markle’s other daughter, Samantha, 61, said she believed the pain and trauma of the past few years had negatively affected her father.
He said: “He’s a strong man, but he’s been through so much. I pray he’s strong enough to get through this.”
“My father has had two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can get through this.”
