Canada PM Carney’s visit to India built strong foundation for truly renewed partnership: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, said the just-concluded visit of his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney lays a strong foundation for a truly renewed partnership between the two countries.

Mr Modi also said he looked forward to working with Prime Minister Carney to build a future defined by trust, growth, innovation and shared prosperity for the people of both countries.
He said this in response to a video Mr. Carney posted on channel X, highlighting some of the highlights of the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to India, in which he said it was not only a renewal of the Canada-India partnership but also an expansion with a new ambition and focus between two self-confident countries charting their own course for the future.
Mr Modi wrote about X: “You are absolutely right, Prime Minister Carney. Your visit has laid a strong foundation for a truly renewed partnership. I look forward to working with you to build a future defined by trust, growth, innovation and shared prosperity for the people of our nations.”
The Canadian Prime Minister was in India from 27 February to 2 March; Meanwhile, India and Canada have signed important agreements on the supply of Uranium and critical minerals and agreed to sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement soon.
In their dialogue, the two Prime Ministers also promised to increase cooperation in the fields of defence, critical technologies, small and modular nuclear reactors, education and renewable energy.
Mr. Carney was accompanied by a high-level delegation. He also interacted with senior Indian and Canadian corporate leaders, financial experts and innovators.
