Secure release of five Tamils abducted in Mali: Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board urges Centre

The Non-Resident Tamils ​​Welfare Board wrote to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday, November 10, 2025, seeking urgent diplomatic intervention for the safe release of five Indian citizens from Tamil Nadu who were reportedly abducted while working on an electrification project in the West African nation of Mali.

In his letter, the board’s chairman, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, expressed deep concern for the safety of the kidnapped Tamils ​​and called for swift and coordinated efforts through the Indian Embassy in Bamako, Mali, and international institutions to ensure their safe return.

Receiving assurances of assistance from the Board, Mr. Sivasenapathy said: “The safety and welfare of Tamil ‘citizens’ working abroad are of paramount importance. We urge the Ministry of External Affairs to act quickly to return our people safely back home.”
