The Trump administration is eliminating an Obama-era policy that prohibited public schools participating in the National School Lunch Program from serving students whole and 2 percent milk.

A White House official confirmed to Fox News Digital that President Donald Trump will sign the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act on Wednesday afternoon.

The executive order eliminates restrictions outlined in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, signed by former President Barack Obama, which required public schools in the National School Lunch Program to offer reduced-fat milk options to students.

“President Trump will sign a fix for Obama’s failed policy of foolishly banning whole milk from public schools and depriving children of the essential nutrients they need to grow, learn and stay healthy,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“This is common sense and great news for America’s children, dairy farmers, and parents who deserve choice, not big mandates from the government,” Rogers said. “President Trump is delivering on his commitment to Make America Healthy Again!”

The National School Lunch Program is federally funded and provides low-cost or free meals to students. Within the scope of the new regulation, students will continue to be given reduced-fat or skim milk.

The executive order comes just days after Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced new dietary guidelines that prioritize healthy fats and full-fat dairy products.

The new order comes just days after the U.S. Department of Agriculture shared a photo of Trump with a milk mustache, referencing the 1990s and 2000s. “Do You Have Milk?” campaign and said: “Drink, America.”

In January 2025, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed her interest in whole milk during her confirmation hearing during a meeting with Republican Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas.

WHOLE MILK RETURNS IN THE NEW MAHA CHILD HEALTH STRATEGY

“Ms. Rollins, welcome. Do you agree with me that whole milk is the most nutritious beverage ever made to humankind and should be included in school lunches?” Marshall said as he pulled out a carton of milk and poured it into a glass for himself.

“Senator, I don’t know if you’ve met my mom yet, that’s all we had in our fridge growing up,” Rollins said. “Nothing else, just whole milk.”
