President Donald Trump announced Monday that he will attend the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) annual dinner this April for the first time as president.

“The White House Correspondents’ Association very kindly asked me to be the Honoree at this year’s Dinner, a long and storied tradition that began in 1924 under the administration of then-President Calvin Coolidge,” Trump said. at Truth Social Monday. “In honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday, and in recognition of the fact that these ‘Reporters’ now recognize that I am truly one of the Greatest Presidents in the History of our Country, the GOAT, according to many, would be My Honor to accept their invitation and work to make this THE BIGGEST, HOTTEST, MOST AMAZING DINNER OF ANY TYPE OF ANY KIND!”

He added: “Because the press treated me extraordinarily poorly, ALL FAKE NEWS, I boycotted the event from the beginning of my First Term and never went as an Honoree. But I look forward to being with everyone this year. I hope it turns out to be something very special. Thank you for your interest in this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

We are pleased the president has accepted our invitation and look forward to hosting him.” declaration read.

Many commentators noted that the dinner ultimately inspired Trump to run for president in 2015.

The 2025 dinner broke with tradition when the WHCA canceled a scheduled performance by comedian Amber Ruffin after White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich criticized the decision to accept her. Then-WHCA President Eugene Daniels said Ruffin’s withdrawal was part of an effort to move away from “the politics of division.”
