Hungry Jack’s owner Competitive Foods Australia sells Claremont site for $7m

The company behind the majority of Hungry Jack’s in Australia has sold the retail building opposite the Claremont Quarter that was previously home to Club Bay View.
Across the road from the Claremont Quarter, Competitive Foods Australia, led by Jack Cowin, has disposed of 1,087 square meters of retail space at 20 St Quentin Avenue for $7.35 million.
The neighboring Hungry Jack’s Claremont building was once home to the late-night Club Bay View venue, most recently known as The Avenue, before it closed last year.
Other tenants also reside there, including general practitioners at Bayview, a medical clinic taken over from the club, Claremont Skin Cancer Clinic, Claremont Clinic women’s health practice and Priceline Pharmacy.
Property records show the organization at 20 St Quentin Avenue bought the site from Hillgrove Nominees.
Hillgrove is owned by CFA, according to Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents.
Paul Cowper, CFA’s chief financial officer and Mr Cowin’s son-in-law, is listed as the sole director.
Mr Cowper is also a director of the CFA.
The new owner of 20 St Quentin Avenue is John Symington, a manager and real estate agent at Toro Property Services in Claremont.
RP Data shows the property has been owned by Hillgrove for more than 30 years.
Hillgrove purchased the site from Property Australia Corporation in May 1994.
The neighboring property at 22 St Quentin Avenue has been flagged for a $109 million 19-storey apartment project after development plans were approved.
Mr. Cowin, 83, is still the largest shareholder in Hungry Jack’s after founding the fast food chain in Innaloo in 1971.
There are more than 480 restaurants across the country.
For the year ending June 30 last year, CFA’s financial statements submitted to the corporate regulator showed profit after tax rose to $101.8 million from $74.1 million the previous year.
Revenue increased from $2.37 billion to $2.51 billion over fiscal 2024.
