President Donald Trump addresses the nation in his State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol this evening.
Moments after entering the House of Representatives on Tuesday night, Democratic congressman Al Green held up a banner as the president walked and said: ‘Black People are not monkeys.’ He was escorted out of the chamber shortly after Majority Leader Steven Scalise took the sign away.
He then blasted the Democratic congressman for refusing to stand up in support of protecting American citizens from illegal alien criminal activity. “Stand up if you agree with this statement: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” he said as several Democrats took their seats.
At least 70 Democrats will boycott Trump’s State of the Union by counter-scheduling or protesting on the National Mall. Others launched a sabotage plan aimed at striking during Trump’s speech as he prepared to reset his agenda.
During his speech, Trump touched upon his policies to strengthen the US economy, as well as the reorganization of global trade and tax cuts.
The president had previously warned that his speech would be long, arguing that the country was ‘strong, prosperous and respected’ as it entered its 250th anniversary. “It’s going to be a long conversation because we have a lot to talk about,” Trump said Monday.
