Trump extends Mexico’s 25% tariffs for 90 days as talks continue

President Donald Trump said that on Thursday, he would not increase the tariffs on the US Mexican goods beyond their existing levels for 90 days to give neighboring countries a trade agreement.
Trump recently threatened to increase the blanket tariff rate in Mexican imports to 30% from a 25% post that had previously imposed to address cross -border crime and drug trafficking. Mexico is also exposed to 25% tariffs and 50% tariffs in car imports.
The new ratio for Mexico will enter into force to sit down in dozens of “mutual” tariffs of Trump’s dozens of countries.
However, on Thursday morning, Trump said he would postpone the tariff change as a result of a “very successful” call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“We are getting more and more, we know and understand each other,” Trump said Real Social Post.
“The complexities of an agreement with Mexico are slightly different from other nations because of both the problems and the existence of the border.”
“For a period of 90 days, we have admitted that we will continue to pay the agreement we had for the last short period of time, that is, 25% of the Fentanyl tariff of Mexico, 25% tariff in cars and 50% tariff on steel, aluminum and copper.”
Trump also said that Mexico has “accepted to immediately terminate non -tariff trade barriers”. His duty did not claim which trade barriers would be removed.
“We will talk to Mexico in the next 90 days in a period of 90 days to sign a trade agreement somewhere or longer.”
Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Deputy Chief of General Staff Stephen Miller, including senior officials, he said.
The announcement emphasizes that the US and the largest trade partner have not even reached a large framework of a trade agreement along the lines that other nations have recently hit with Trump.
It reflects the importance of Trump as a product source that Mexico trusts Americans, where Americans trust Americans and the influential working relationship with the president.
