Trump extends pause on attacking Iran energy facilities to April 6

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is extending a 10-day pause on short-term attacks on Iranian energy facilities through April 6 at the request of the Islamic Republic’s government.

Trump’s move prevents an escalation of war with Iran at a time when the United States has signaled it wants a negotiated end to the conflict and the Strait of Hormuz remains almost completely closed to oil shipments.

His announcement comes at a time when major U.S. stock indexes are falling and oil prices are rising.

“Per the request of the Government of Iran, please allow this statement to represent that I have paused the Power Plant demolition process,” Trump wrote in the Truth Social post. he said.

“Talks are ongoing and going very well, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media and others. Thank you for your interest in this matter!”

The initial five-day pause in U.S. attacks on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure was set to end Friday. Trump first announced the pause on Truth Social on Monday.

The war has led to sharp increases in oil prices as Iran effectively shuts down shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical passage for the movement of crude oil.

The benchmark S&P 500 stock index fell 1.74% on Thursday, its biggest daily decline since the beginning of 2026, as oil prices rose. Brent crude futures ended up more than 5.6 percent at $108.01 per barrel.

Trump told reporters at the White House earlier Thursday that the United States was “having very important discussions going on regarding Iran.”
