Donald Trump fired US Attorney General Pam Bondi. based on Multiple reports ousted a stalwart who reshaped the justice department but still failed to please a president focused on prosecuting political enemies and fed up with the politically explosive release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, and has faithfully served as my Attorney General for the past year. Pam has done a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown on Crime across our Country, with Homicide falling to its lowest levels since 1900,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “We love Pam and she will be transitioning to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector, which will be announced in the near future.” He added that deputy attorney general Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general.
Lee Zeldin, a former New York congressman who now leads the Environmental Protection Agency, is said to be one of the top candidates to replace Bondi.
Bondi presided over a large meeting career cleaning justice department staff shifts focus away from criminal prosecutions for immigration cases and led the defense of Trump’s slew of executive orders as he faced legal challenges.
But Trump will perhaps be best remembered for complying with a public demand last year that federal prosecutors bring criminal charges against Trump’s personal enemies.
