In June, as the Trump administration’s immigration network intensified, a nurse in Portland, Oregon, left work one afternoon and went to a nearby detention facility to voice her opposition. Federal agents had dispersed many protesters in front of the facility by throwing smoke grenades, but Vincent Hawkins still raised his megaphone.
